At the end of 1856, in Northeast India's Malakai Pass, British Colonial troops under the command of Captain Jeffrey Steven Claybourne are staging an attack on Indian rebels' position. The rebels are part of a major Indian uprising against the rule of the British East India Company which acts as a sovereign power on behalf of the British Crown. British colonial troops, formed with local recruits called Sepoys are divided between soldiers loyal to the British Crown and mutineers fighting against their former masters. Captain Claybourne has no reasons to be concerned with the loyalties of the Sepoys under his command. He is loved and respected by his soldiers, especially after he disobeys retreat orders and rushes to the aid of a doomed company of Sepoys which is caught in a meat-grinder during an ill-planned attack. Despite victory, the beloved captain is court-martialed for disobeying orders and cashiered out of the army. As a civilian, the ex-captain goes on safari but at one of the ...

Suspenseful Spanish detective story investigating the murder of 2 girls in Spain. Great Spanish acting performances, with beautiful photography.

Suspenseful detective story about the investigation into the murder of several girls in a rural village in Spain. This story is intermingled with some political references to the dictatorship of Spain by Franco during the seventies, although at heart it is mostly a thrilling detective story.

Great acting performances by Spanish actors. Beautiful photograhphy. Dark and looming soundtrack. Definitely one of the best foreign detective stories I have watched in years.

Crime thriller movie

Two homicide detectives went to a village for a investigation of two missing girl. Laterly they found dead and the duo detectives found some more murder similar like that two girl's. All of these girls had some link to one guy.

Who was the murderer? What is the link between them?Did the detectives able to find the murderer?

You will have to see the movie to know about these answers.

My personal rating is 8.00 out of 10.00.

Dark and gritty thriller

We know the set-up from endless crime stories. We follows the two detectives; the "good guy" Pedro, and the brutish and hot-tempered Juan, who are sent to a small town society in the marshland of Spain in 1980 to unravel the murder of two young sisters. But as the story unfolds and we learn more about the investigation and the background of the detectives, we are dragged into a societal marshland that is just as muddy and dirty as the surroundings. Besides being a regular crime thriller, this also turns out to be a criticism of corruption and the political system in 1980s Spain. The story is well-written and well-executed and ends up being much more than just another crime story. The acting is credible and subtle, the score is intense and fits the film perfectly, but especially the tone is great. The tone is quite similar to True Detective (also from 2014 as this one) with the yellow-ish color scheme, the dry and desolate landscape and the dark and rather depressive atmosphere. The pacing is slow and the combination of the score, the tone and the cinematography (in particular the bird's eye shots of the roads and landscapes) adds up to a pretty great, dark and gritty experience.
