Don Oscar, if he wanted, could have been the next Escobar, but instead he sits on the ruins of his decrepit little drug empire. And let's face it, there is not much left to sit on. Only a handful of his most faithful guard still remain with him. An unpaid debt starts bringing consequences and a bag with the last hidden money passes from hand to hand, from dead to dead. Loyalty proves fickle as the death toll keeps mounting. Only one ending appears likely for Don Oscar - A black comedy about thugs who are neither first-, nor second-, nor even third-class criminals in the Colombian town of Tulua. As the director remarks, "it is neither Tarantino nor a drug lord story". It's a simple story about low-profile thugs, a story challenging every genre cliché and prejudice.

My first 10 star movie review of 2018 ( After 60 or so)

Now first let me say that when I review movies/series, I review them based on the genre and comparing against other films in the same genre.

Teen comedy/drama's are a real challenging genre. Its very hard to get everything right, and often films in this genre end up coming off pretentious, melodramatic or crude.

To All the Boys I've Loved Before, has none of these things. Its cute, as realistic as these films go, funny at the right moments, unique, drama that isn't over-embellished and continues to be enthralling throughout.

The acting, although a little inexperienced, is really top notch. Its not over-produced either, probably a lower budget for production, but it actually makes the film seem to have more heart and a sense of realism.

The plot is well devised and thought out, casting was perfect.

However the comedic style is quirky and as comedy is relative a warning for those people expecting an American Pie style sex-joke-comedy, this isn't it. Its really in good taste and lighthearted. It also could be slightly slow paced for some people who are used to the rolling mindless drama's of Hollywood.

Recommend for families, teens and lovers of this genre.

This was actually pretty cute

The characters were likeable and mostly believable, in a slightly Disney way but way less annoying. I like the fact that they didn't show teens having sex and they showed a strong family unit.

To All The Boys I've Loved Before looks really good. It is very well shot and color graded, and pretty much every scene in this is pleasant to the eye. I just wish its writing were as pretty as its looks. I found the exposition present in the dialogue to be a bit unsubtle and clumsy, but I don't think that's what hurt the movie the most.

The movie is painfully predictable. Once you get to know the characters and what the movie is actually about in the first 30 minutes, you can easily guess what's going to happen in the middle of it, and how it's going to end.

The acting is okay and somewhat entertaining. Nothing all that impressive. They didn't really go for a more realistic approach, which made the movie really feel like "a movie". The way the characters act and speak scream "teenage movie" rather than "actual teenagers", and the fact that the movie keeps falling into its genre's tropes doesn't help with that at all.

The movie tries to be funny sometimes, but the jokes don't actually land, although I did find the scenes with Anna Cathcart to be quite entertaining.

Its soundtrack will most likely appeal to any "cool" teenagers out there. Some songs are pretty enjoyable, but overall I found it a little bit boring. But nowhere near as boring as the movie's ending. The movie ends exactly how you would think it would end, and it does that in a very "meh" way.

To All The Boys I've Loved Before is a pretty Teenage Romance movie with okay-to-good acting and bland dialogue. Dialogue that fails to be funny most of the time it tries and that ends up sounding corny rather than cute. A predictable story with a "meh" ending.

I'm pretty sure I'm not part of the audience this movie is targeting, but the way I see it, To All The Boys I've Loved Before tried, didn't exactly fail, but didn't succeed either.
