Aretha Franklin...

"Respect" is a Biography - Drama movie in which we follow the life of Aretha Franklin from her start when she was singing in front of her father's church choir to her international career. Her magical music journey is presented in this movie.

I enjoyed this movie because it had a very interesting plot that was based on the life of Aretha Franklin, it also contained many famous songs of Aretha Franklin and also some very good interpretations. The direction which was made by Liesl Tommy was very good and she presented very well the life story of Aretha Franklin. Regarding the interpretation of Jennifer Hudson who played as Aretha Franklin I have to admit that I was amazed. Some other interpretations that have to be mentioned were Marlon Wayans' who played as Ted White, Forest Whitaker's who played as C. L. Franklin and Marc Maron's who played as Jerry Wexler. In conclusion, I have to say that "Respect" is a nice movie about Aretha Franklin and I am sure that you will learn more about her and you will enjoy her beautiful music for one more time.

Not Sure It Does Her Justice

Firstly the movie is at least 45 mins too long.

Secondly due to the story lines they choose to follow Aretha comes across as an alcoholic neglectful parent?

The end credits summary paints her in a much better light?

6/10 - overly long and it tries to cover too much of her life for one movie, but Jennifer Hudson brings it as the Queen of Soul who triumphed in life despite her countless adversities.
