It's early in the morning, the sea at Ostia is calm. A man knocks at the door of a woman's house: he is going to sell her a watch. It is early in the morning again when, a few days later, a young assistant professor of philosophy will be left out of the group chosen for the exhumation of Nietzsche's body. Two grievances. Two apparently incompatible families: the Pavone and the Vismara. Bourgeois and intellectual the former, proletarian and Fascist the second. Opposing factions that share the same jungle: Rome. A banal incident will bring the two poles into collision. And the folly of a twenty-five-year-old man will lead to a showdown that reveals everyone has a secret and no one is what they seem. And that we are all predators.

In debt to the mob and in need of a new money making scheme to save his skin, greedy grind-house film producer, Max Barber, (Robert Deniro) decides to produce a dangerous new film, all for the sake of killing his lead actor in a stunt so he can rake in the insurance money. But when he casts Duke Montana, (Tommy Lee Jones) an aging, washed up movie star as the lead, Max never expects the depressed old drunk to be revitalized by being in front of the camera again. Unable to kill Duke in a basic stunt, Max ups the stakes, putting Duke into ever more dangerous situations. And as Duke survives stunt after stunt, Max unwittingly starts making the best movie of his career. A cross between "Get Shorty" and "The Producers," THE COMEBACK TRAIL is a fun journey through the underbelly of Hollywood. Littered with a cast of unforgettable and outrageous characters, it will have you giggling.

Hallmark/Disney Vibe

I was expecting so much more from Amy Poehler. The movie wasn't the usual clever or funny Amy. I understood what the film was trying to do and say, but it mostly missed the mark. The writing was very amateurish and the characters very stereotypical. It had a Hallmark movie vibe and the Disney channel corniness. I really wanted to like it but in the end I just found it ok.

Failed Feminism

This film trying to tick all the boxes. It even brings up a very real and sad issue, which it deals with in a false, terrible and shallow way. It was completely unbelievable.

Unfortunately the young girl who is trying to lead the way for young women everywhere does what a stereotypical girl always does and gets emotional, looses her cool, is mean to her mom and storms off because the world hates her. Good thing there was a man to tell her the error of her ways and put her right.

Defeated the whole concept which in itself was full of double standards.

Some seem to be giving this movie 10 star ratings solely because it is about feminism and intersectionality. Besides the topic, this movie is awful and just full of double standards. Are people not watching closely or do they just not want to see? For example, the women make it clear that they shouldn't be judged by their appearances, but one scene later there is a slow-motion scene of a man taking off his shirt. It seems as if this movie was written by teenagers. This movie is so driven by agenda that it forgets all about good cinematography, realistic dialogue and avoiding clear double standards that destroy the moral of the story.Awful movie.
