Movie Description:
Wealthy industrialist Robert Talbot arrives early for his annual vacation at his luxurious Italian villa to find three problems lying in wait for him. Firstly, his long-time girlfriend Lisa Fellini has given up waiting for him to pop the question and has decided to marry another man. Secondly, the major domo of his villa, Maurice Clavell, has turned the estate into a posh hotel to make some easy money while the boss isn't around. And, finally, the current guests of the "hotel" are a group of young American girls trying to fend off a gang of oversexed boys, led by Tony, who are 'laying siege' at the outer walls of the villa. Talbot, to his own surprise, finds himself becoming an overprotective chaperone.

Cute and fluffy

Rock Hudson and Gina Lollobrigida are a gorgeous couple who have a grand time together in Italy where there's no societal pressures to change anything about their relationship. However, when the owner of their villa allows a group of impressionable American teenage girls to room there for the summer, everything changes. Gina is forced to act as a role model to the kids, and in the process, she realizes that the virtues she's espousing have merit. How can she tell Sandra Dee to hold out and force Bobby Darin to respect her when she lets Rock call the shots?

Sometimes older folks versus younger folks movies don't work. This one is very cute and funny, and there's a cute backstory to it as well. This is the movie that brought Bobby Darin and Sandra Dee together and led to their marriage! Whether you're rooting for the teens or the grown-ups, neither couple is made out to be silly or stuffy. Everyone has things to learn, and no one is blatantly wrong about everything. Rent this fluffy romantic comedy if you like movies filmed on location. You'll get to see plenty of nice scenery, and I'm not just talking about the cast!

Typical Sixties Romantic Comedy

Come September contains few surprises in that it's a light comedy that represents its time (1961). You get the expected romantic complications, misunderstandings, scheming, and a suitable resolution. No drama here; you know how it will all turn out. But that's okay. When you watch a comedy like Come September, you would be disappointed if it didn't follow formula.

Come September has a few things to recommend it. All the actors do a fine job. Rock Hudson is the focus of the film and he holds it together. Gina Lollabrigida is sexy and funny; she plays her part with spirit.

In addition, the scenery--shot along the Italian Riviera--is beautiful. The villa where the story unfolds is perfect as the vacation home of a rich American businessman.

To top it off, in what other film do you get a joke about a drunken parakeet?
